Fire destroys cargo truck on Adugyama-Bechem highway

In the early hours of Monday, August 25, a Benz cargo truck transporting more than 2,500 bags of rice from Côte d’Ivoire to Kumasi was extensively damaged by fire near the Star Oil Filling Station at Adugyama, along the Adugyama-Bechem highway.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported that the Tepa Fire Station received a distress call at 4:53 a.m. and immediately dispatched a team of five firefighters, led by ADOII Heneampong Williams.

The crew arrived at the scene by 5:40 a.m.

The firefighters swiftly brought the blaze under control within an hour, by 6:40 a.m., and fully extinguished it by 8:13 a.m.

Despite the truck (registration number GT-1350-U) being severely damaged, the crew managed to salvage over 600 bags of rice.

One person, the driver’s mate, suffered a minor injury but is in stable condition.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The GNFS team returned to base at 11:10 a.m. after successfully containing the situation.
