1 dead, another in critical condition in an accident at Duapompo
An accident involving a Burkina Faso fuel tanker with registration number 9374F-10-3BF on the Kumasi-Accra highway has claimed a life with another person in critical condition.
The accident happened at Duapompo in the Asante Juaben municipality.
Eyewitnesses said the fuel tanker driver who was traveling from Tema to Burkina Faso attempted to make way for an overspeeding car traveling in the opposite direction.
As a result, he veered off the road to grant space to a speeding car that was coming from the Kumasi end of the road. Consequently, this leads to the tanker somersaulting.
The driver of the fuel tanker died on the spot.
One person, reported to be the driver’s mate, has been admitted to the Konongo Government Hospital in the Asante Region receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, a Kia Rhino Truck traveling from Dambai towards Bonwire at Jasikan also somersaulted and killed five people on the Dambai-Asukawkaw road in the Oti Region.
According to an Assembly Member of the Asukawkaw Electoral Area, Michael Oduro, the accident occurred on a bridge along that stretch.
He explained that the bridge had become weak and slippery, causing vehicles to somersault whenever their brakes were applied.
The Assembly Member added that the bridge has now become a death trap on the Krachi East road.
