13-year-old girl drowns in abandoned galamsey pit at Juaboso

A 13-year-old girl, Tesnim Iddrisu, has tragically lost her life after drowning in an abandoned illegal mining pit at Juaboso in the Western North Region.

The incident occurred while Tesnim was out collecting firewood.

She reportedly slipped and fell into the water-filled pit and could not be rescued in time.

Residents in Juaboso say this is not the first such tragedy in the area.

Several others, including farmers and young children, have perished in similar circumstances.

They are now demanding urgent action from the government and local authorities.

The community is calling on the government, District Assembly, and security agencies to intensify efforts against illegal mining and ensure that abandoned sites are properly reclaimed.

They warn that without immediate intervention, the cycle of preventable deaths will continue.
