13-year-old girl’s ordeal sparks urgent calls for justice in Madina
In Madina, Accra, a young girl’s horrific experience has ignited widespread outrage and urgent demands for justice.
The 13-year-old student from Madina No. 3 School is now pregnant after allegedly being gang-raped by over 20 men, including teenagers, acts that reportedly began in February this year.
The survivor bravely shared her story with two organisations, whose statement details her trauma and fear.
She named her neighbour, 45-year-old mason Clement Kwame, as the man who allegedly lured her with false promises before subjecting her to repeated assaults.
Kwame is also accused of coordinating further attacks with others, many believed to be his associates.
Fear and threats kept the girl silent for months, delaying any opportunity to seek help.
The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Madina is currently handling the case, with some arrests made, but the organisations Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG) and the Justice Revived Foundation (JRF) are gravely concerned that key suspects, especially Kwame, remain at large.
The two organisations are calling on the authorities to act swiftly: they want the immediate arrest of all perpetrators, legal action without delay, and comprehensive support for the survivor, including medical care, counselling and social welfare.
“We will not rest until justice is served. Every child has the right to safety, and perpetrators must be held accountable,” said HRRG and JRF in a united statement.
The case has spotlighted the urgent need to strengthen child protection laws and enforcement in Ghana.
