2022/23 League Season: Ghana Card shall be the only proof of identity – GFA
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has introduced new modalities for the next football season, with the Ghana Card being the sole document of proving the identity of players.
The registration period for the Ghana league season 2022/23 begins on Friday, 1 July 2022, and closes on Thursday, 25 August 2022, at 23:59 GMT.
One of the GFA’s strict directives is that the Ghana Card would be the only form of identification for registration renewals, transfers, and new registrations.
This literally means that, in order for the 2022/2023 football season to begin, registration of football players and club officials, transfers, and renewals will be done solely using the National Identification Card, meaning other forms of identification like the National Passport and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), will not be accepted as communicated.
The GFA announced on their official website on Tuesday, 21 June 2022 that the purpose of this instruction is to prevent player duplication and false information about players.
The directive also said that all premier league, Division One League, and Women’s Premier League clubs are expected to take note of the date to complete registration.
The country’s football governing body added that there will be no extension and that the deadline shall be strictly enforced.
Therefore, clubs should note the important deadlines and adhere to strict compliance to avoid sanctions.
