2022 World Cup qualifiers: Ethiopia arrives in Ghana on Tuesday

Ghana’s World Cup 2022 qualifying opponent Ethiopia are set to arrive in the country on Tuesday to begin preparations ahead of the upcoming encounter.

Black Stars will play host to Waliyas Antelopes at the Cape Coast on September 3 in the first qualifying match of the group which also contains South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Coach Charles Akonnor is expecting to have a full team by Monday night as the team begins camping on Tuesday to prepare for the game.

Already report has that, the likes of skipper Andre Ayew, Mubarak Wakasso and Leicester defender Daniel Amartey are already in town for the all-important game which the team expects a win to have a great start to the campaign.

With European clubs reluctant to allow some players of his 30-man provisional squad to travel for the qualifiers due to COVID-19 restrictions, Akonnor has handed late call ups to four new players for the games.

The four new inclusion are Celta Vigo’s Joseph Aidoo, Yaw Yeboah of Wisła Kraków and German-based duo Braydon Manu and Daniel Kofi Kyere who were recommended by GFA Technical Director Bernhard Lippert who is currently assessing Europe-based Ghanaian prospects.

The winner of each group will enter the final phase which will be a playoff game to eventually decide the teams that make it to next year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
