2025 World Athletics Relays: Ghana finish third in Heat to miss out on qualification

Team Ghana finished third in its heat, missing out on qualifying for the finals of the 2025 World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China, as well as for the World Championships in Tokyo this September.

However, Ghana will have another opportunity to qualify for the World Championship on Sunday, May 11.

The team, consisting of Fuseini Ibrahim, Barnabas Agerh, Sean Sarfo Antwi, and Mustapha Bokpin, completed the race with a time of 38.49 seconds.

Unlike previous races where Ghana struggled with baton changes, sometimes even dropping the baton or being penalized for lane infractions, Team Ghana managed to complete the race without such issues.

Unfortunately, they did not secure one of the two automatic qualification spots. Great Britain and Northern Ireland won the heat, which was the first of four races held in the rain in the Chinese city, finishing with a time of 38.18 seconds to automatically advance to the final.

Poland came in second place with a season-best time of 38.43 seconds.

In contrast, Jamaica did not finish the race due to a mishap during the baton exchange.

South Africa won Heat 2 with a time of 37.84 seconds, qualifying for both the final and the World Championship.
