25 Agona Swedru SHS students suspended over campus fight

Twenty-five final-year students at Agona Swedru Senior High School have been suspended indefinitely following a violent altercation reportedly sparked by a same-sex relationship proposal.

School authorities explained that the incident began when one male student allegedly expressed romantic interest in another.

The proposal was declined, and the student who received it later shared the situation with his peers.

They allegedly advised him to lure the other student into a setup.

During the arranged meeting, the student who made the proposal was ambushed and assaulted by a group believed to be friends of the one who had declined the offer.

In retaliation, the assaulted student called on his dormitory mates, leading to a reprisal attack.

The conflict quickly escalated, drawing in more students and resulting in a large-scale confrontation. School officials intervened and identified those involved.

Mrs. Golda Esi Andam, Headmistress of the school, confirmed that the students were granted the opportunity to present their side of the story before the disciplinary decision was made.

“These students will write their final exams under the escort of their parents. They now understand that the Ghana Education Service takes its code of conduct seriously,” she stated.

Although the students have been suspended, the school has made arrangements to ensure they can still complete their exams. Mrs. Andam urged all students to respect school rules to avoid facing similar consequences.
