36-Year-Old Carpenter Jailed For Stealing Goat

The Jasikan Circuit Court has sentenced a 36-year-old carpenter, Mawuli Agbenya, to one-year imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a nanny goat.

The court presided over by Mr Alfred Kwabena Asiedu, found Mawuli guilty according to his own plea.

The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth Vincent Kpodo, said the complainant and the convict, a carpenter, were both residents of Okadjakrom near Jasikan.

According to him, the complainant released four goats for grazing on May 14 at around 02:00 pm, but a nanny goat “did not return home with the others.”

According to ASP Kpodo, the complainant searched the neighbourhood for the nanny goat but was unsuccessful.

He claimed she grew suspicious of Mawuli and told the local Unit Committee about it.

According to ASP Kpodo, the committee members helped with the search, which included the suspect’s home.

He said they found the missing goat, which had been slaughtered and kept in the convict’s residence.

According to him, the complainant claimed the meat was from her missing nanny goat, worth GHC 500.

According to ASP Kpodo, Mawuli admitted to capturing the goat that wandered into his home while being questioned after arrest.
