A ghastly bus accident around the Aggrey Memorial Senior High School in Cape Coast has claimed four lives and left over twenty others seriously injured.

The accident happened on Friday, December 27, 2024.

The Yutong bus, which was travelling from Takoradi to Accra, had 53 passengers on board when the driver attempted to swerve around a towing car that had made a wrongful overtaking.

However, in trying to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle, the bus landed on its side and skidded for a distance before coming to a stop.

Two passengers, Jonas Ofori Teye and Kojo Asiedu, recounted the harrowing incident, describing how some passengers were trapped while others managed to escape by jumping out of the windows.

Charles Opoku, an eyewitness who assisted in rescuing the victims, said they were rushed to the Cape Coast Teaching and University of Cape Coast Hospitals for medical attention.

Keteku Prosper, a principal of the Emergency Medical Team from the National Ambulance Service, reported that the injured included 10 males, 7 females, and 5 children.

Unfortunately, the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital was full, necessitating the referral of some victims to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) hospital.

This incident comes after an accident occurred on Christmas Day, December 25, near the KNUST police station in Kumasi, Ashanti region, leaving six people injured.

The collision involved a truck carrying tomatoes from Burkina Faso to Nkawkaw and a Range Rover travelling from the KNUST campus.

According to eyewitnesses, the Range Rover driver attempted to cross onto the main road heading towards Ejisu but crashed into the oncoming truck, which was travelling from the Oforikrom direction.

The impact was severe, causing the truck to veer off the road and crash into a ditch just past the traffic light near the police station.

The injured victims, including three women, were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

The truck, with registration AS 9903-15, sustained significant damage in the collision.
