A 40-year-old teacher has drowned in an abandoned well at Adugyama, a farming community in the Ashanti Region.
Samuel Owusu lost his life during the weekend whilst trying to retrieve an undisclosed amount of money from the well.
According to a police report, the teacher entered the well to retrieve the money belonging to his neighbour and it accidentally fell.
Owusu was rushed to the Mankranso Government Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival by the medical officer on duty.
“On 22/03/2024, at 1400hrs, deceased Samuel Owusu, aged 40, a teacher and a resident of Adugyama entered an abandoned well in the neighbourhood to retrieve his neighbour’s cash and could not return.
“A team of fire personnel from Tepa came and removed the deceased from the abandoned well,” the police statement said.
The statement added that the case is currently under investigation.
Meanwhile, the body has since been deposited at Plus Lab Mortuary at Mankranso for preservation and autopsy.
This incident comes months after two men also drowned in a well at Sefwi Asawinso in the Western North Region.
The two were identified as Patoo, a plumber, and Mr Wonder, a house caretaker.
According to reports, the caretaker engaged the services of the plumber, to help fix a faulty pumping machine in the well.
In an attempt to bring out the old pumping machine from the well to fix it, the plumber slipped and fell into the well.
The caretaker quickly entered the well intending to rescue the plumber but also got trapped.
Some neighbors who noticed the unfortunate incident made several attempts to rescue the two but failed.
