66 Ghanaians rescued from Human Trafficking ring in Nigeria – Police

The Ghana Police Service has expressed deep concern over an alarming increase in human trafficking incidents, where Ghanaians are being misled into travelling to various countries within the ECOWAS region.

During a press conference held in Accra on June 30, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), revealed that 66 individuals tied to a trafficking network associated with QNET were recently rescued in Nigeria.

This rescue operation, conducted between May 19 and June 27, 2025, was the result of a fruitful collaboration with Interpol.

The police reported that the victims, primarily young Ghanaians, had been lured with false promises of joining football academies and securing lucrative job opportunities abroad.

Unfortunately, upon arrival, they faced dire and exploitative conditions, where their movements were heavily restricted, and their identification documents were seized.

DCOP Donkor strongly advised the public, especially young individuals looking for jobs, to be cautious when exploring employment or educational opportunities beyond Ghana.

She also urged families and community members to help verify such offers and to immediately report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

“These scammers use deception, coercion, and deny victims access to travel documents. Such actions are criminal and punishable by law. Anyone found guilty of luring individuals into such schemes will be arrested and prosecuted,” she said.
