7 Lawra SHS students feared dead after boat capsizes on black volta
OkWhat began as a routine morning jog ended in tragedy for students of Lawra Senior High School, after seven of them went missing when a boat they boarded capsised on the Black Volta River near Dikpe.
According to reports, ten students on a morning exercise unexpectedly attempted to cross into Burkina Faso.
Midway through the crossing, their boat overturned, throwing all passengers into the fast-moving river.
Three students were rescued, while the remained in the river.
Meanwhile, rescuers have so far retrieved three bodies of the while the four remain unaccounted for.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with local authorities and divers combing the river.
However, the Black Volta’s strong currents have hampered efforts and raised fears that the four students may have also drowned.
