Eight suspects have been arraigned for an alleged robbery in a lawyer’s home at the Airport Residential area of Accra.
The suspects allegedly held lawyer Hamida Nuhu at gunpoint and took US$114,500, £800, GH¢50,000, and €3,000 from her Premier Place home.
They also stole GH¢2,000.00, US$800.00, and unspecified pieces of jewellery.
The suspects are Richmond Tetteh, alias Metiti; Mawuli Heletsi, aka Mosquito; David Kokvina; Joseph Nii Amu Offei, alias Gaza; Malik Alhassan, alias Goliath @ Ababe; Dennis Adu Ninson, alias NAM1; Mustapha Mumuni, alias Starboy; and Zuberu Mustapha, alias One Corner.
Richmond Tetteh was caught while displaying some stolen goods at a drinking spot.
Six of the suspects are standing trial for conspiracy to commit a crime and robbery, while two are charged with dishonestly receiving cash.
However, when they appeared before an Accra Circuit Court on July 12, 2022, they all pleaded not guilty.
As the trial continues, some defendants have been granted bail by the court, while others are still in police custody.
Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned to July 31, 2023.
Presenting the facts to the court, Superintendent Augustine Yirenkyi said the robbery occurred on March 26, 2022, at about 2:04 am.
Mawuli, dressed in all black and in a mask, armed with a pistol, entered the lawyer’s room, attacked and robbed her of the huge sums of money in a trunk in her closet.
Lawyer Hamida quickly reported the incident to the police when the suspects left.
Police intelligence led to the arrest of one of the suspects, who was captured by a CCTV camera arriving at the scene on a motorbike.
The prosecutor added that efforts are being made to apprehend the other accomplices, as the case is still under investigation.
