Sellas Tetteh appointed Sierra Leone head coach

Ghanaian Sellas Tetteh has been named as head coach of the Sierra Leone national team.

Tetteh, who won the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup with Ghana, is returning to the West African country after serving as caretaker coach between 2015 and 2017.

A SLFA statement reads: “After a thorough interview process by the Sierra Leone Football Association Head Coach Recruitment Committee and based on scores earned by the various candidates, the Executive Committee of the Football Association wishes to announce to the general public and the football family the appointment of Mr. Sellas Tetteh Teivi as the Head Coach of the National Senior Team (Leone Stars).”

“The newly appointed coach is expected to assume office and take up his duties within the next 48 hours.”

“Please know that it is the responsibility of Mr. Tetteh, as Head Coach, to appoint his backroom coaching staff.”

The 62-year-old was first appointed as a caretaker coach in August 2015. He was in charge of Leone Stars when they were eliminated from the 2018 World Cup preliminary qualifiers by Chad.

The SLFA extended his stay before taking control of matches the in 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

He departed Sierra Leone after Leone Stars failed to reach the tournament in Gabon.

His first match in charge will be against Liberia in Monrovia as Sierra Leone open their World Cup 2022 campaign against Lone Star on September 4.
