Artistes managers still lobby just to be on VGMA- Nana Poku Ashis
Kwabena Kwabena’s manager and talent developer, Nana Poku Ashis has described the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards as long being regarded as one of the most prominent award schemes in Africa.
Speaking in an interview Nana Poku Ashis disclosed that industry insiders continue to attest to its significance with the awards impacting artistes and the industry as a whole.
“You cannot take anything away from the Ghana Music Awards. Whether you like it or not, it is the biggest,” the artiste manager boldly declared”.
Further buttressing his point, he revealed that even artists who have been vocal in their criticism of the scheme would readily embrace the opportunity to perform on its prestigious stage.
“All the artistes who keep screaming and condemning the scheme, if they give them the platform they’ll no hesitate to jump on stage,” he explained “Ghana Music Awards will give you news and mileage.”
He also asserted that countries like Tanzania and Morocco also pay close attention to the Ghana Music Awards and listed VGMA as part of the top 5 awards that are regarded as some of the most significant and highly regarded award ceremonies on the continent.
“Who said Tanzania or Morocco doesn’t watch the Ghana Music Awards? he queried.
He stated, “We are one of the pacesetters when it comes to awards in Africa, if you take out EMI and the headies in Nigeria, Ghana Music Awards and the one from South Africa, those are the most pressing ones and our brothers from the Diaspora pay attention to a lot. The Breakfast Show mentions VGMA”
According to Ashis, artistes and their managers actively lobby to secure a performance slot on the esteemed stage because of the immense value it holds for their careers.
“Even as of now artistes managers lobby just to be on that stage but some don’t even get the opportunity, it’s not bribery but we have our ways and means of getting our artiste on the stage,” he revealed.
