The voting centers in all constituencies across the country have officially closed their doors as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) concluded its presidential election on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
The much-anticipated event witnessed over 200,000 delegates casting their vote to elect President Akufo-Addo’s successor and flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
The NPP’s ambition is to maintain its hold on power after the 2024 polls, with a campaign strategy known as “Breaking the 8-Year Election Cycle Jinx.”
The party is actively seeking a candidate who can contribute to the realization of this objective.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, MP for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, and former MP for Asante Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh are the final contenders.
While various pollsters have tipped Vice President Dr. Bawumia as the favorite, the competition is expected to be fierce, particularly from Kennedy Agyapong.
On the ballot paper, the Assin Central MP occupies the top slot, followed by Dr. Bawumia in the second position, and Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Mr Addai-Nimoh in the third and fourth slots, respectively.
The outcome of this election will significantly influence the NPP’s strategy for the 2024 elections.
