I don’t regret being able to represent the country of my parents – Inaki Williams

Athletic Bilbao striker, Inaki Williams, has expressed his satisfaction with his decision to represent Ghana, the country of his parents, over Spain.

The 28-year-old announced on 5th July 2022, making himself available for the West African nation just in time for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Williams, who was born in Spain, received his first call-up for Ghana in September for friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua. He made his debut against Brazil, playing the second half of the 3–0 loss in Le Havre. His commitment to Ghana was further solidified when he was selected for the 2022 World Cup squad in Qatar.

“I had to make a decision and I don’t regret being able to represent the country of my parents, my family. I think I’m in one of my best moments because of that decision I made to play with Ghana” he told Club del Deportista reflecting on his choice.

Williams was part of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Ghana squad, which was eliminated early in the group stage in Ivory Coast.

The 29-year-old has made 17 appearances and scored once for Ghana.
