The one-week observance for Inspector Theresa Zampiaw, one of the three police officers who died in a ghastly accident at Kyekyewere, has been set for April 6, 2024.

The ceremony will take place at Marina Park, Ashaley Botwe, in Accra, from 6 am to 6 pm.

Theresa and two colleagues, Chief Inspector Michael Adzaho and General Corporal Emmanuel Asamoah, died in a fatal incident on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Kyekyewere along the Accra-Kumasi Highway.

The accident occurred while the officers were on their way for police operational duties.

Information gathered indicated that the police officers were in a convoy heading towards Kwahu to ensure peace and security ahead of the Kwahu Easter celebrations.

Unfortunately, when the white Formed Police Unit (FPU) van reached Kyekyewere, one of its tyres burst, causing the vehicle to somersault and land in a ditch.

The force of the accident resulted in the doors of the vehicle coming off, leading to the ejection of the three officers.

They were rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital, where the three officers were confirmed dead.

General Corporal Samuel Jude Koufie, another officer travelling with them, sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The officers were all serving with the Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the Ghana Police Service.
A statement from the police said, “In line with Ghanaian tradition, members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) visited the families of the deceased officers to formally inform and commiserate with them.”
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, personally led some POMAB members to the FPU to formally inform unit personnel about the tragic incident.
The one-week observance dates for the other deceased officers are yet to be disclosed.
