UG Sports Stadium confirmed as venue for 2024 WAFU Zone B U-17 Cup of Nations

The 2024 WAFU Zone B U-17 tournament is set to kick off in Accra from May 15th to May 29th, with the University of Ghana Sports Stadium chosen as the venue for the event.

This tournament holds significant importance as it serves as the qualifying platform for the 2024 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana’s Black Starlets will headline Group A alongside Cote D’Ivoire and Benin, while Group B will feature Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Togo.

The competition promises to be fierce as these young talents vie for a chance to represent their countries on the continental stage.

To facilitate the teams’ preparations, four training pitches have been designated for their use.

These training grounds include the Athletics Oval field, the Mensah Sarbah field, and The Union Ghana soccer field, all situated within the University of Ghana campus.

The University of Ghana Sports Stadium, which recently opened its doors after being commissioned on March 2, 2024, is no stranger to hosting prestigious football events.

Just two months ago, it played host to two matches of the Africa Games Men’s Football tournament, showcasing its capability to host high-profile sporting events.

With its strategic location, the anticipation is high for football enthusiasts residing in and around the University of Ghana and nearby suburbs such as Okponglo, Madina, Haatso, East Legon, Bawaleshie, and Achimota.
