Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has indicated matters regarding the conversion of the Borteyman Sports Complex into a sports university will have to be on hold for a while.
The Minister stated that the multi sports complex will first have to be used as a satellite campus first for the Sports College at the University of Education-Winneba before a full blown conversion into a university.
Speaking to the media after touring the sports complex that served as the flagship venue for the 2023 African Games that Ghana hosted, the Sports Minister issued a stern warning to encroachers on the Borteyman Complex’s land and added that
“We don’t need to start [using it] as a university straight away, we could even start more as a college, a learning point.

“Our plan truly is to upgrade the Winneba Sports College to a university and then use this place [Borteyman Complex] as a satellite campus because there are more facilities here than maybe Winneba. The combination of the two facilities will help us.”
