Three teenagers involved in a machete-wielding robbery in the Ashanti Region have been convicted and sentenced by the Atasemanso Circuit Court in Kumasi.
The suspects, Mamudu Issah, Samuel Takyi, and Alhassan Abubakari, all aged 18, will each serve 10 years in prison following their arrest and trial.
According to a statement from Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the robbery occurred in Boubai, Asokore Mampong Municipality, on July 1, 2025, between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
Armed with machetes and riding on unregistered motorbikes, the trio attacked residents and made away with cash, mobile phones and personal belongings.
Their crime spree was cut short thanks to the quick action of community volunteers, who tracked down the suspects at a hideout in Aboabo later that day. The police later confirmed their arrest and prosecution.
The court handed down its verdict with Mamudu Issah receiving 10 years for each robbery-related charge and an additional 3 years for causing harm, all to run concurrently.
Takyi and Abubakari each received 10-year sentences, also to run concurrently.
DSP Ahianyo commended the courage and cooperation of the residents.
“The swift response by community volunteers played a key role in bringing these suspects to justice,” he said.
The Police Command continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activity to assist crime-fighting efforts.
