Mpox cases jump to 218 – GHS

Ghana has recorded 21 new cases of Mpox as of July 14, 2025, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 218.

According to an announcement by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on its social media handles, the outbreak is still under control, with no new hospitalisations or deaths recorded at this time.

Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is a viral infection primarily transmitted through close physical contact with those who are infected.

It usually manifests with symptoms such as fever, body aches, swollen lymph nodes, and a characteristic rash. While most cases tend to be mild, the virus can present serious health risks without timely intervention.

In light of the rising number of cases, the GHS is strengthening its public health messaging, urging the people of Ghana to remain vigilant and adhere to preventive measures.

This includes refraining from close contact with individuals exhibiting rash symptoms, maintaining regular and thorough handwashing, and seeking immediate medical advice at the first signs of illness.
