Former Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag’s time at Bayer Leverkusen is off to a very rocky start as Brazilian side Flamengo’s Under 20 side delivered a shellacking of a beating to the German side.
Flamengo’s Under 20 team beat Bayer Leverkusen 5-1 in a friendly game played earlier on Friday, July 18 on Leverkusen’s Brazil Tour in this year’s offseason.
Leverkusen conceded two goals in the first 10 minutes but what looked like a quick goal in response from Morocco winger Amine Adli in the 19th minute was flagged offside.
Flamengo piled on the misery on Leverkusen by bagging two more goals in the 39th minute and in added on time to close out the first half despite the German side starting heavy hitters like Nigerian striker Victor Boniface and goalkeeper Mark Flekken who recently signed from English Premier League side Brentford.

Montrell Culbreth tapped in for Bayer Leverkusen at the far post in the 70th minute to register Bayer Leverkusen’s consolation goal. Flamengo recently competed in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States of America.

After an up and down two year run at Manchester United, Ten Hag was sacked early in his third season at the club after a frustrating start to the 2024-2025 season before joining Leverkusen ahead of the start of the 2025-2026 season.
