A former Minister of Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has defended the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over the promotion of women’s football in Ghana.
He said this at a time when the GFA’s involvement in the Black Queens success at the 2024 Women’s AFCON in Morocco has been questioned by many in the sports sector attributing it to the Black Queens’ determination.
Ghana’s National Women’s Football Team, the Black Queens, finished third at the CAF Women’s AFCON after beating South Africa on penalties.
Speaking on the floor of Ghana’s Parliament in the presence of the Black Queens, Mustapha Ussif commended the GFA’s role in the team’s success in Morocco.

“The Black Queens performance in Morocco did not just happen by accident. It’s as a result of many factors including meticulous planning by the GFA. I have worked very closely with the GFA and I know what they’ve put in in terms of promotion of women’s football” he said.

The Black Queens were hosted by the GFA after returning to Ghana. Scroll down to watch Mustapha Ussif’s speech in Parliament.
