Ghana bans entry of travellers from coronavirus-hit countries

Ghana has issued a ban on travels into the country following the detection of six cases of coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.

At a press briefing on Sunday, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, disclosed that any traveller except for Ghanaian citizens and persons with Ghana resident permits who “within the last 14 days has been to a country that has recorded at least 200 cases of COVID-19 will not be permitted into the Ghanaian jurisdiction.”

Additionally, “All travel to Ghana is at this stage strongly discouraged until further notice.”

Officials at various airlines, border posts, and all entry points have been instructed to disallow such persons from entry into the boundaries of the country.

Authorities have also introduced a mandatory 14-day quarantine for people who will be allowed access into the country.

The country’s law enforcement agencies and health officials have been tasked to ensure the quarantine and isolation of persons suspected with cases.

  • These ban is in the right direction and is lo g overdue. We shd not have waited to record cases before the ban. We need to be very proactive in dealing with
    this issue. Also intensify campaign s

  • Prevention is better than cure. Ghana is now ill with coronavirus. By our friendly and loving nature, a large number of Ghanaians are likely to be numbered as living dead for now until a cure is found. Sorry for the lives of those living dead and God save the rest of all.
