Coronavirus: We’re grateful but give us PPEs – GMA reacts to gov’t incentives
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has welcomed the government’s decision to provide them with some incentives during the coronavirus outbreak.
Although the association has welcomed the move, the medical professionals say priority must be given to the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

“I would like to commend the president and government for the measures they have taken and package for us. When you are doing something and your president acknowledges you, it gives you morale to do more.
“We are grateful for that incentive, but all we ask is that they should give us the PPEs… there is a challenge with PPEs distribution and I’m sure the ministry knows it. All we are saying is that ‘let us get the PPEs,” the President of the association, Dr Frank Ankobea, he said on Accra based Starr FM.

President Akufo-Addo, on April 5, announced a three-month tax holiday for all health workers in the country as part of their incentive packages for their selfless sacrifices during the outbreak of the coronavirus.
Additionally, front line health workers will receive a 50% allowance on their March to June basic salaries. They are also to enjoy free rides to and from work on Ayalolo buses.
Ghana records 214 coronavirus cases
Ghana recorded 214 on Sunday, April 5 up from the 205 cases on Friday.
According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), six of the cases were recorded in the Greater Accra region and the remaining three in the Ashanti region.
Among the cases from Greater Accra, one is a 37-year-old woman with no history of travel nor contact with a confirmed case. One is a repeat test of a traveller under quarantine who was initially negative but converted to positive on a repeat test.
Four are contacts of confirmed cases with no symptoms and were detected during the enhanced contact tracing and testing.
Of the three (3) cases from Ashanti Region, two (2) are Ghanaians who travelled to Ghana from France within the past 14 days and the third one is a Ghanaian who has no history of travel out of the country nor contact with any confirmed case.
