Ghanaian filmmaker Israel Agbo Forson has been arrested after a video surfaced online in which he threatened to shoot police officers.

The 32-year-old North Legon resident reportedly recorded the video himself and shared it on his social media platforms.

The video was said to have followed an encounter where police officers stopped Forson for a routine vehicle search.

Visibly angered by the incident, he recorded a message directed at the Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, calling for better training for officers dealing with the public.

“If I’m strapped and I see anything that’s misconduct, I won’t bring it to court. I will shoot,” Forson warned in the video, adding that the encounter was the third of its kind he had experienced.

His comments sparked outrage online and concern among members of the public. Acting swiftly, the Accra Regional Police Command tracked him down in an intelligence-led operation at his home on June 23, 2025.

In a statement issued the following day, police confirmed his arrest and stated that Forson had been granted police enquiry bail while investigations continue.

“On Monday, 23rd June 2025, an intelligence-led operation resulted in the arrest of the individual identified in the video as Israel Agbo Forson, a 32-year-old filmmaker residing in North Legon,” the statement read.

While Forson has not publicly responded since the incident, the case has stirred broader conversations about police-public relations and the responsibilities of social media users when voicing grievances.
