Ablekuma North decides today

All is set for the rerun of parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North constituency today, Friday, July 11, 2025.

This move comes after months of contention that have left the constituency without a Member of Parliament, following the disruption of the original coalition process during the December 7 polls.

According to the Electoral Commission, the decision to conduct the rerun today follows extensive consultations with the two major political parties involved, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Although the NPP is in disagreement with the rerun, the NDC is demanding a complete exercise in all 37 polling stations, arguing that the scanned pink sheets used for collation were provided exclusively by the NPP after the original physical documents were destroyed by party supporters who stormed the collation centre.

They questioned the legitimacy of the scanned results.

The NPP, on the other hand, insisted that results from the three remaining polling stations should be collated and a winner declared, pointing out that the NDC’s agents had already endorsed the scanned pink sheets in question.

After reviewing the evidence and verifying documentation, the EC confirmed that while all 37 scanned results were endorsed by agents from both parties, only 18 were also verified and confirmed by the presiding officers.

The Commission added that 18 polling stations will not require a rerun.

Earlier, the NPP leadership confirmed that they would not partake in the rerun with their candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie.

However, in less than 24 hours before the election, Nana Akua Afriyie informed the public that she would be contesting in the rerun.

She further appealed to the constituents to come out in their numbers to vote for her today.
