SC to rule on Akwatia PC injunction case today

The Supreme Court, will tomorrow Wednesday June 11, rule in the two applications filed by New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Akwatia Constituency, Ernest Kumi, for the Apex Court, to dismiss contempt conviction by the High Court, in Koforidua and also another application for the court to quash an order of interim injunction against the Mp from carrying himself as the member of parliament for the Akwatia constituency.

The New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Kumi, filed the two applications at the beginning of the year, in which he wants the Supreme Court court, to quash the February 19 contempt of court ruling issued against him by the Koforidua high court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Senyo Amedahe.

Among his reliefs, is an order of prohibition, to prevent the High Court Judge from going ahead with sentencing on the contempt conviction.

In a second application, Ernest Kumi, wants an order of certiorari by the court quashing the ruling of Justice Emmanuel Senyo Amedahe sitting at the High Court 3, Koforidua dated February, 19, the petition filed on December 31 2024, and the interim injunction order dated January 2, and a ruling dated January 6, made pursuant to what he describes as a premature Election Petition, filed on December 31 2024.

On the last adjourned date, April 30, the panel, presided by Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, said they could not conclude their judgment, on the applications because they were occupied with work and subsequently, set Wednesday June 11, to give their decision.
