Adonko International Music Festival Launched

World Star Records Limited, a music and artiste management company in Ghana, has launched its flagship event, the Adonko International Music Festival slated for March 4 & 6, 2023.

Powered by local beverage producers, Adonko Company Limited, the event is scheduled to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium and would feature an array of Ghana’s finest music stars.

Held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), the launch had in attendance several musicians including Okuraseni Samuel, Andy and Kaakyire Kwame Appiah.

Also in attendance were some dignitaries and key stakeholders in the music and arts sectors including, Bessa Simons, President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA); Madam  Janet Edna Nyame,  Executive Director, National Commission on Culture; and Nana Aboagye Dacosta, chairperson for the event.

The Adonko International Music Festival, which will be held under the theme: “Fostering Creativity through Music to Promote National Development”, is aimed at promoting Ghana’s rich music culture to the world while providing a platform for Ghanaian artistes to connect with music stars from other countries.

In his remarks, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of World Star Records Limited (WSR), Ernest Djan, said his team had reached out to all the top musicians in the country as well as a few others from Nigeria and other countries to perform at the event.

“We have reached out to almost all the musicians in Ghana and few in Nigeria for the concert. Also, we will have international artistes passing through and I can say for a fact that this event is going to be super,” he assured.

On his part, General Manager of WSR, Mark Akomeah Sekyi, said the date for the event would enable Ghanaians enjoy the “vibrant cultural spirit in our music, especially as Ghana celebrates its 66th Independence Day anniversary next year.”

“As Ghana prepares to celebrate its 66th independence next year, we found it imperative to relive the already vibrant cultural spirit possessed by indigenous creatives both home and abroad. This necessitated the reinforcement of an already thought-out plan in the form of an international music festival, whose surface we scratched last year,” he stressed.

The three-day event would also showcase art exhibitions, fashion shows, cultural displays, tours to some of Ghana’s famous tourist sites, amongst others.

The event, he added, would be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration; Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture; National Commission on Culture and other state and non-state agencies.
