Afua Asantewaa, a Ghanaian media personality and singer, has once again fallen short of claiming the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon.
The outcome followed an official review of her second attempt by the Guinness World Records team.
According to their assessment, the attempt was disqualified due to rest break violations. The rules state that participants are entitled to five minutes of rest for every continuous hour of singing.
However, Afua’s team was found to have exceeded the allowed rest periods at two points during the marathon.
“At 23:25 during sequence 19, Afua reportedly took a 15-minute break, when she was only entitled to 5 minutes of rest. Later, during sequence 21, she took a 105-minute break, despite having only 10 minutes of accrued rest time,” officials reported.
These infractions meant that the performance could not be certified, as consistency and fairness are key to maintaining the integrity of all Guinness World Record attempts.
Still, Afua’s spirit remains unshaken. Speaking after the announcement, she acknowledged the disappointment but also highlighted the personal growth and community support she has gained.
“It’s been a challenging yet rewarding journey. Exploring my potential on the Guinness World Records platform has brought about growth, discovery, and life-altering experiences,” she said.
Afua also thanked her supporters, including Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and her sponsors, for standing by her throughout the process. While this marks her second disqualification, she remains determined and hopeful for what lies ahead.
