Akufo-Addo Attends Swearing-In Of Uganda President-Elect Museveni

President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his capacity as Chairperson of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States, left Ghana on Tuesday, 11th May April 2021, to Kampala, capital of the Republic of Uganda, to attend the swearing-in of H.E. Yoweri Museveni, President-elect of Uganda.

The President was accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, and officials of the Presidency and Foreign Ministry.

The President will return to Ghana on Wednesday, 12th April 2021, and in his absence, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, shall, in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution, act in his stead.

Uganda’s long-time President Yoweri Museveni was re-elected amid accusations of vote fraud by his main rival Bobi Wine.

Mr Museveni won almost 59% of the vote, with Bobi Wine trailing with about 35%, according to the country’s electoral commission,

Bobi Wine, a former pop star, was unsuccessful in defeating Mr Museveni.

The government shut down the internet ahead of voting day, a move condemned by election monitors.
