The Eastern Regional Police Command has apprehended Alhaji Sofo Azorka in relation to an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, who serves as the Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This incident took place during the Akwatia by-election on September 2, 2025.
In a statement released on Friday, September 12, the police announced that Azorka was detained in Tamale as part of an ongoing investigation on Wednesday, September 10.
The statement further indicated that a caution statement was taken from Azorka, after which he was granted bail.
He is scheduled to report to the Eastern South Regional Police Command in Kyebi on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 10:00 am, where he will face court proceedings.

“The police assures the public of a thorough investigation into the matter and hence entreats all to remain calm as further development shall be communicated,” the statement noted.
