Ama K Abebrese schools Becca over racism, tribalism comparison

Some social media users in Ghana have descended heavily on Afro-pop singer Becca over her latest tweet on the gruesome murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Since the incident, thousands across the world have condemned racism and demanded justice with the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter.

Reacting to the calls, the singer Becca said it was about time Africans channelled the same anger towards tribalism and xenophobic attacks.

According to her, people are in Africa are fighting racism in the US, but are criticising and judging people who marry from different tribes.

“You are here in Africa fighting and advocating racism in the US, but in your church/home, you are criticising and judging someone for marrying a fellow African because they are not from your hometown/country/church… Damn Hypocrites!!!” she wrote.

Her tweet sought to compare the circumstances under which George Floyd was killed to issues of tribalism and ethnic prejudice in Ghana.

Becca’s tweet did not sit well with Actress Ama K. Abrebrese, who educated the singer on the magnitude of racism.
