Asante Kotoko Board chairman Dr Kwame Kyei resigns – REPORTS
Asante Kotoko board chairman Dr Kwame Kyei is reported to have taken a decision to resign from his position.
A report by Accra-based Happy FM claims Dr Kyei informed the life patron of the club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, of his decision, when the Asante monarch met the board on Tuesday at the Manhyia Palace.
The President of the Unity Group of Companies is said to have told the Otumfuo that he had invested heavily in the club with no returns and did not have the support of the other board members in the team.
However, his decision to resign was not accepted by Otumfuo who has referred the matter to the board for further deliberation and advice in due time.
Also, there are reports that Dr Kyei, who recently purchased a Division One side Bekwai Youth Football Academy, wants to focus on the progress of his new club.
The businessman took over the club from Samuel Opoku as the Chief Executive [CEO] before he was named as board chairman about a year ago.
Under his leadership, Asante won the MTN FA Cup in 2020 but missed out on a title in 2021.
