Asante Kotoko condemns violence in Ghana football after tragic death of supporter

Asante Kotoko has strongly condemned the increasing violence in Ghanaian football following the tragic death of one of its supporters, known as Polley.

The devoted fan succumbed to injuries sustained from multiple stab wounds during a violent altercation that occurred after Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League match against Nsoatreman FC on Sunday.

In an official statement, the club reported that media personnel and fans who traveled from Kumasi to support the team were attacked after the match at Nana Konamansah Park.

Unfortunately, Polley, who was critically injured in the chaos, passed away while receiving medical attention at the hospital.

The violence erupted after Nsoatreman FC secured a 1-0 victory over Asante Kotoko in a heated Week 19 fixture.

What began as a tense match escalated into disorder as players exchanged blows on the pitch after the final whistle.

The situation escalated when spectators, reportedly supporters of Nsoatreman FC, threw objects at the Kotoko bench, resulting in further unrest.

These alarming events have drawn widespread condemnation, with Asante Kotoko calling on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and law enforcement agencies to take decisive action against those responsible.

The club has also urged for stricter security measures at match venues to ensure the safety of players, officials, and fans. Authorities are expected to launch investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice and to strengthen security at league matches to prevent future incidents.
