Asante Kotoko SC terminate contract with coach Mariano Barreto

Ghana Premier League club, Asante Kotoko have reached an agreement with coach Mariano Barreto to terminate his contract after just six months into his contract with the club.

A report filed by Kumasi-based  Nhyira FM indicates, both parties agreed with the contract abrogating after a fruitful negotiation on Friday.

Barreto has been holding talks with the club for a possible exit after a report of a fallout with the management after ending the season trophyless.

The former Black Stars coach was appointed in March 2021 to replace Maxwell Konadu who was sacked in December 2020 after just five matches into the season.

He returned to Ghana football almost 15 years after abandoning the national team midway into the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifiers for Portuguese topflight outfit Maritimo.

The 64-year-old Portuguese guided the Porcupine Warriors to a second-place finish on the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League log with 57 points and suffered elimination at Quarter-Finals of the MTN FA Cup.

The new development paves way for Kotoko to proceed with the acquisition of West African Football Academy SC head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum as a possible replacement ahead of the 2021/22 season.
