The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested dozens of suspects in a major crackdown on crime, targeting armed robbers, drug traffickers, and a long-wanted murder suspect.

On May 8, police patrol teams in Kenyasi responded swiftly to a robbery incident, arresting three young men—Umar Issah, 26, Sherif Mohammed, 20, and Abdul Jalilu, 19.

The suspects allegedly robbed two residents at gunpoint while riding motorbikes. After a brief chase, police intercepted them.

According to the police, Sherif sustained a gunshot wound during the arrest, while the others were also injured.

All three are currently being treated under police guard at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The police also retrieved the stolen mobile phones and the motorbikes used in the robbery.

In a separate case on May 10, the Airport District Police arrested 29-year-old Adam Mohamed at Aboabo No.1 for alleged drug trafficking.

Officers discovered large quantities of Tramadol and over GHS 66,000 suspected to be proceeds from drug sales. He remains in custody as investigations continue.

Another breakthrough came with the arrest of Michael Owusu Ansah, also known as Baby Last, who had been on the run since 2016 for the murder of a police officer during a robbery at the Open Space Hotel in Denchemuoso.

His confession led to the arrest of four accomplices. All five suspects have been remanded in custody by the Atasomanso Circuit Court.

Meanwhile, a targeted raid on Thinka Island led to the arrest of 34 suspects involved in drug trafficking. This operation followed directives from Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak.

“We remain committed to ensuring safety and security across the Ashanti Region,” said DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Regional Police PRO.

Investigations are ongoing, and all suspects will be prosecuted. Police are urging the public to report any suspicious activity.
