President John Dramani Mahama has sanctioned his appointees who failed to declare their assets by March 31, 2025.

According to the president, these officers will forfeit three months of their salary and donate the same to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.

This will be in addition to the one-month salary that all appointees were required to donate to the fund.

Speaking at the launch of a code of conduct for government appointees, Monday, May 5, 2025, Mr Mahama gave the defaulters up to May 7 to declare their assets and consider themselves sacked.

“For all those who were appointed or nominated before 31st March 2025 and failed to meet the deadline, you are forfeiting three months of salary to be donated to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund named after me, Mahama Cares.

“In addition to one month’s salary that I have asked all appointees to donate to the Mahama Cares Trust Fund. So it means that those who omitted to declare their assets by the date, you are paying four months’ salary to Mahama Cares,” he said.

On February 18, 2025, the president set a deadline of March 31 for all appointees who were taking office or being nominated at the time to declare assets.

He threatened to sanction all appointees who failed to comply with the directive before the deadline.

Asset declaration by government appointees aligns with Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates public officials to declare their assets upon assumption of office.

Government officials, including the president, ministers, and other high-ranking appointees, are required to declare their assets upon assuming office, every four years thereafter, and upon leaving office.

This includes details of properties, bank accounts, and financial interests.
