Awako, 2 others released from Black Stars camp ahead GPL weekend league matches

It can be described as a morale boost in the camp of three Ghana Premier League title contenders when Black Stars head coach CK Akonnor, released three home-based players from national duty to rejoin their clubs ahead of this weekend’s crucial round of fixtures.

The players who can be described as key players in their various team set up are Gladson Awako of Great Olympics, Asante Kotoko’s central defender, Abdul Ganiu Ismail and Rashid Nortey of Medeama.

Awako will have an opportunity to lead his team to record a double win over city rivals Hearts of Oak in the Mantse Derby on Sunday 6 June 2021 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

He led his team to a 2-0 win over Hearts in the first round of league season, a match he scored from a free-kick.

Elsewhere, central defender Abdul Ganiu Ismail and midfielder Rashid Nortey will be joining the set up of Asante Kotoko SC and Medeama SC respectively.

Asante Kotoko take on AshantiGold in a crucial Ashanti derby on Sunday at the Len Clay Stadium while Medeama SC also take on Karela United in a crunch regional derby later today.

The three players are expected to report back to Black Stars camp before they travel for the international friendly against Morocco on Tuesday 8 June 2021 in Rabat.

The Stars will return to host Ivory Coast at the Cape Coast stadium four days later.
