The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that printing of ballot papers for the upcoming Akwatia parliamentary by-election will begin on Wednesday, August 20.
The update follows a high-level meeting convened by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) with representatives of political parties to discuss security measures and prevent election-related violence.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Director of Electoral Services Benjamin Bano-Bioh confirmed that “We begin printing the ballots tomorrow. Procurement is complete, and all necessary materials are in place. We are ready”.
The by-election was triggered by the passing of Akwatia MP Ernest Yaw Kumi of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who died in July 2025.
At the briefing, the IGP outlined key security plans to ensure a peaceful electoral process. Bano-Bioh assured the public of the EC’s readiness.
“We are fully committed to delivering a professional and credible election. We urge all political parties to abide by the rules.”
