An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a barber who visited an inmate at the Baatsona Police Station with 13 wraps of whitish substance suspected to be a narcotic drug.

The accused, Abdulai Hamza, was charged with unlawful possession or control of narcotic drugs.

He pleaded not guilty when he was hauled before the court presided over by Rosemond Baah Torsu.

He was subsequently remanded in police custody to reappear on 10 October 2022.

The facts of the case were that the complainants are police officers from the Baatsona Police Station while the accused is a barber who resides in Baatsona.

On 18 September 2022, at about 2:00 pm, the accused came to the station to visit his friend by name Sedzro, who is a remand prisoner, to ask him what food he would like to eat.

He was then permitted to talk to the remand prisoner, but the accused person’s movement raised suspicion, and a thorough search was conducted on him.

Upon the search, 13 wraps of whitish substance and three wraps of plant material, all suspected to be narcotic drugs, were found in his shirt, which he claimed ownership of.

The exhibits were forwarded to the forensic science laboratory for examination and report.

It is for this reason that the accused was charged with the offence and arraigned before a competent court of jurisdiction.
