Beware of parody accounts, I don’t beg for money and perfumes – McBrown

Actress Nana Ama McBrown has asked her fans to beware of parody Facebook accounts.

“I do not ask for money or perfumes from people on Facebook, that is not me, my Facebook account bears Nana McBrown, any other name you see there is not me,” she said

According to the actress, some parody accounts on Facebook are soliciting money and items from unsuspecting individuals

“For now, I don’t haven’t asked anybody for anything and by the grace of God I am okay but if even the need arises for me to solicit for funds for any project, I will put it up on my verified pages” she noted.

Parody accounts are not new to the Ghanaian social media space, as public figures are often impersonated to dupe unsuspecting targets.

On October 8, 2020, the Foreign Ministry, published a disclaimer warning the general public to be wary of any Facebook account in the name of the Foreign Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway.

The Ministry also used the statement to caution the public not to accept requests on any social media platform from the said account and to resist attempts by miscreants who seek to dupe them by soliciting funds to process a Ghanaian passport.

In October 2020, rapper Kwesi Arthur’s Facebook parody account got verified.

The rapper took to his verified Instagram page to plead with his fans to report the account.

“Fake!!!!! Please report this Facebook page”.
