Beware of scammers, we are not recruiting – Police warns

The Ghana Police Service has served notice to unsuspecting Ghanaians to beware of scammers posing as agents for police recruitment.

There is a rise in fraudulent schemes promising jobs for public members in the service in exchange for money.

Advertisements of such activities are rife on social media, where victims are asked to contact certain numbers but end up being defrauded.

Therefore, the police have intensified awareness creation about the development and reiterated the application process into the law enforcement agency.

“The police have not advertised recruitment”, neither have they opened applications from potential applicants, a statement released to that effect explained.

The police further stressed that it had not created a special portal for protocol recruitment, neither has it authorized any individual or group to facilitate recruitment for the service.

“The public should report any person, group or entity which advertises police recruitment to the nearest police station,” the release advised.

Stories of scammers swindling unsuspecting Ghanaians with the promise of enlisting them in to the police service have been current in the news.

The police have also intensified efforts to arrest and prosecute persons behind the fraudulent activities.

On May 23, 2021, a police officer, Sergeant Kennedy Asomani, was hauled before the Accra Circuit Court for duping 44 persons of GH¢100,000 with the promise of enlisting them into the service.
