Black Meteors suffer third successive defeat

Ghana U23’s side tasted yet another defeat as South Korea beat them by 3-1 in a friendly on Saturday morning.

The Black Meteors have now suffered a third straight defeat following back to back loses against Japan.

Korea got their noses in front at the Jeju World Cup Stadium in the 17th minute when skipper Lee Sangmee rose highest to head home from a corner-kick.

They were however reduced to 10-men in the 38th minute when Kim Jinya was given his marching orders following a poor challenge on Samuel Ashie-Quaye.

Despite Ghana’s numerical advantage, it was the Koreans who continued to dominate proceedings and deservedly doubled their advantage courtesy of Lee Suegmoo’s brilliant finish after the restart.

Cho Guesung put the result beyond doubt by registering his name on the scoresheet to make it 3-0.

Samuel Obeng Gyabaa pulled one back for Ghana late in the game but it proved to be only a consolation goal as the home team held on for the win.

Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin’s side will look to bounce back when the two sides square off again on June 15 in another friendly match which will be played behind closed doors at the same venue at 11am GMT.
