Blue Water Guards in the Prestea-Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region are intensifying their crackdown on illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as galamsey.

In a recent operation conducted on the Mansi River near the Dwabeng community, the guards dismantled two Changfan machines mounted on a moving platform.

The machines were set ablaze, and parts were discarded into the river to deter future use.

Allan Kweku Acheampong, Supervisor of the Bogoso Base Blue Water Guards, who led the operation, shared in an interview.

While no arrests were made during this operation, he emphasized the team’s commitment to combating illegal mining consistently.

“This is the Bogoso River Guards. We came for an inspection on the Basin River at Dwabeng. Some machines have been burnt and destroyed, and others thrown into the river,” he explained in an interview.

The Blue Water Guards have pledged to maintain vigilant surveillance and enforcement efforts along the rivers to ensure the preservation of water quality and protect the environment from further harm.
