The John Evans Atta (JEA) Mills Memorial Heritage has launched a book in memory of the late President Professor Atta Mills in Ho, the Volta Regional capital.

Christened ‘Atta Mills Speaks’ is a compilation of the late president’s four State of the Nation Addresses (SONAs) which contains his visions, proposed programmes and projects.

Atta Mills Speaks which is the second publication by the JEA Mills Memorial Heritage was launched at the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Lecture held at the Cedi Auditorium on the Sokode campus of the University of Health Sciences (UHAS).

Students, clergy, traditional authorities, politicians, and people from academia among others converged at the auditorium for the Volta and Oti Region edition of the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Lecture which was part of series of events to commemorate and mark the 10th anniversary of the demise of the late president.

Dr Eric Osei, a member of the Editorial Team of the JEA Mills Memorial Heritage, said the idea of the book was conceived with the hope that the current or subsequent governments would implement policies, programmes and projects envisioned by the late president for the betterment of the country.

He explained that the speeches and addresses of the late Prof. Mills during his tenure as president between 2009 and 2012 would also be compiled and published later in the year.

Prof. Lydia Aziato, the Vice Chancellor of UHAS, acknowledged the leading role of the late President Prof. Mills in establishing the university and requested for assistance and support to further develop the university.

Most Reverend Gabriel Mante, the Catholic Bishop of the Jasikan Diocese, eulogised the exemplary leadership style of the late President Prof. Mills.

Dr (Mrs.) Grace Ameh-Obeng, the Chief Executive Officer of FC Group of Companies, entreated the citizenry to emulate the life of the late president and eschew the love for money and ill-gotten wealth but strife to work hard to earn their living.

Prof. Fred Binka, the Foundation Vice Chancellor of UHAS, proposed a change of name of UHAS to John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences to properly immortalise the late President Prof. Mills and also suggested that UHAS should restore the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Lectures which had been renamed Leadership Lectures.
