Residents and commercial drivers living along the Ejisu-Onwe-Kwaso stretch in the Ashanti Region are calling for urgent intervention to fix deteriorating roads blamed for miscarriages and rising financial burdens.

On July 7, 2025, dozens of aggrieved locals took to the streets in a four-hour protest, blocking sections of the road with debris and placards asking the government to fix the pothole-ridden route before more lives and livelihoods are lost.

Community members say the poor state of the road has driven renters away, piled repair costs on drivers, and put passengers, especially pregnant women, at serious risk.

A resident shared a heartbreaking account: “Last year, many pregnant women had miscarriages because of the road. The moment the car bumps into the manhole, your waistline absorbs the shock, and so, they had a miscarriage out of this bad road”.

Drivers described the financial toll of regular repairs to shocks and shafts, often within weeks of installation. They feel ignored after repeated complaints and now hope the demonstration will finally attract government attention.

Meanwhile, Municipal Chief Executive Jerryne Asante acknowledged the seriousness of the issue and confirmed reports of miscarriages linked to the road’s condition.

She assured listeners that rehabilitation works would begin soon, although she was disappointed that the protest wasn’t coordinated through the proper channels.
