A raging bushfire has destroyed yet another yam barn in Kpare Kpare, a farming community in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region, adding to the growing woes of local farmers.

The latest fire on Monday, February 4, 2025, marks the fifth of such incidents in recent weeks, leaving many farmers devastated and struggling to recover their losses.

The recurring fires have raised alarm among farmers, who are now appealing to the Ministry of Agriculture, the government, and other stakeholders for immediate assistance.

Among those severely impacted is Mr. Eric Akwasi Asumadu, who lost his entire yam stock.

In an interview, he expressed deep distress over the loss and urged authorities to provide relief and support.

Other affected farmers include Mr. Kwasia Anase Mensah, Mr. Tapo Nchaame, and Mr. Adjei Yaw Agbeviako, who have all suffered significant losses.

Mr. Mensah’s entire yam barn was reduced to ashes on January 13, 2025, in a similar fire outbreak.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nchaame lost over 1,000 tubers of yam to another bushfire at Tapon-Akura earlier this year, dealing him a devastating financial blow.

For many, the impact goes beyond monetary loss—it is the destruction of months of hard work, dedication, and livelihood.

The farmers are now calling for urgent measures to prevent further devastation and help them rebuild their lives.
